It wasn’t until I moved to Florida as an adult, having grown up in Miami, that I became mesmerized by landscape, specifically Big Talbot Island, which I focused on for eight years—drawing, painting and photographing. When I returned to Seattle I continued to paint landscape. I was on a roll.
The Portrait of Rain series absolutely defines the northwest landscape for me. This painting is actually made up of 55 individual paintings or strips of canvas—each representing rain as do the various hanging chains.
